Jesu.

This is one of the busiest add weeks that we have had at Team Clermont radio so far this year. Not only do we have the recently Cropped about album by The Coach and Four going for adds this week, but we also have the UK sensation The View, as well as the Aqueduct album.

Today though, the focus is on the new album by Jesu (pronounced 'yay-zu') titled The Conqueror, out on February 20th in the US on Hydra Head Records. Justin Broadrick, the Birmingham-based musician who is the driving force behind Jesu, has also been involved in Napalm Death, Techno Animal, and most recently Godflesh. The Conqueror has drawn a lot of inter-0ffice comparisons to Sigur Ros, Pelican, Isis (who Jesu will be touring with later this month), and I still insist on a similarity to Hum (especially their Downward Is Heavenward album). Zach Baron at Pitchforkmedia.com made the comparison to Slowdive or Codeine, and I definitely sense a shoegaze influence.

Many of the tracks on The Conqueror clock in over seven minutes long, but much like David Lynch's INLAND EMPIRE, time will not play much of a factor in the overall listening experience. There are alternating moments of pounding, crushing gravity followed by those aforementioned moments of shoegaze bliss. Overall, The Conqueror balances the "metal" with the "melody", and will hopefully throw anyone looking to pigeon-hole the album scratching their heads after repeated listens.
